How do I configure a dedicated SSL certificate for my website?

To implement a dedicated SSL on your website hosted on a Netfirms premium hosting plan, please follow these steps:
 
A. Configure a Subdomain
 
1. Login to the Netfirms Control Panel at https://controlpanel.netfirms.com
2. Click Domains
3. Click Domains
4. Click Add
5. Click the Subdomain tab
6. In the Enter a subdomain box, enter a subdomain (eg. www)
7.  From the pull-down menu, select a domain name
8. Click Add

NOTE #1
: If you require to access your secure website via your dedicated IP, then no forwarding location is required for your domain. That is, you may leave the Forwarding Location for your domain that is secure as /.
NOTE #2: Please allow up to 72 hours for the sub-domain to fully propagate throughout the Internet. This propagation time is standard.

B. Purchase a Dedicated IP
 
9. Login to the Netfirms Control Panel at https://controlpanel.netfirms.com
10. Click Account
11. Choose Shopping
12. Click Dedicated IP
13. Follow the onscreen prompts

NOTES:
(i) A Dedicated IP may be purchased for $10USD/month (or $12CDN/month). We ask that you pay for the full year
(ii) Select a hostname from the hostname pull-down menu for the dedicated IP to be associated with the dedicated IP
 
C. Generate an SSL CSR
 
14. Click Hosting
15. Choose Advanced
16. Click SSL Certificate
17. For the website address that the certificate will be applied to, click the plus sign located to the left of the IP Address
18. From the CSR tab, a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) is generated. It will look quite cryptic with a string numbers and letters. Using your mouse, copy the entire CSR as you will need to send it to your SSL Vendor via email.

D. Purchase a dedciated SSL certificate
 
19. Visit an SSL Provider (e.g. http://www.geotrust.com/) and purchase a certificate (prices will range from $79.95 - $179.95 depending on the Provider)
20. While purchasing the certificate you will be prompted to provide the CSR generated from step #11 above. Locate your CSR you copied from step 18 above and paste the CSR as requested by the SSL vendor to an email to their website submission form (whichever instructions they provide you with)

NOTE: You may also be asked to indicate the type of web server the SSL certificate will be installed on. Choose: apache-modSSL

21.Your SSL provider will then present you with a .CRT file (This is the certificate). Please keep a copy of it as you will require to paste the information into the Netfirms Control Panel to activate the certificate.

E. Activate the SSL for your website
 
22. Log back into the Netfirms Control Panel
23. Click Hosting
24. Choose Advanced
25. Click SSL Certificate
26. For the website address that the certificate will be applied to, click the plus sign located to the left of the IP Address
27. From the CSR tab, paste the CRT your received from your SSL vendor into the CRT text box

IMPORTANT: 
Ensure that you remove any extra blank spaces when copying & pasting the .CRT text to the Netfirms Control Panel

27. (Optional) If your SSL provider included an intermediate certification click the Show button to enter the intermediate certificate
28. Click Submit
 
This will enable https://subdomain.yourdomain.com where yourdomain.com is your domain hosted at Netfirms (eg. https://www.yourdomain.com)
