How do I publish my web site using Frontpage 2000 or 2002 in FTP mode

Using FTP mode to publish your web site using Frontpage will allow secondary FTP accounts to be used in Frontpage. When publishing using the HTTP method, only the main account is able to publish. With the FTP method, you may if your hosting plan supports it, use secondary FTP users.

1. From the 'File' menu at the top, click on the "Publish Web..." menu item
2. A new pop up will open. Enter into the location to publish:
3. Type in the publishing address. Here is an example of one: ftp://membername.netfirms.com/www/yourdomain.com/

Your publishing address is made up of three parts. We will break them down so that you can ensure you are using the correct information.

Part 1: "ftp://"

This requires no work. Just ensure you prefix your connection with "ftp://"

Part 2: "Host name"

The host name will be your 'membername.netfirms.com'. Or, if you are a Canadian customer, your host name will be 'membername.netfirms.ca'. You may confirm your member name by logging in to the Netfirms control panel. In the top right it will say "Logged in; [membername]". The bolded word is your member name. If it said "Logged in; netfirmsuser" and your account was a Canadian account, your host name would be:

netfirmsuser.netfirms.ca

Part 3: Directory

The directory you publish to is determined by the domain's forwarding location. By default Netfirms accounts are configured so that each domain has it's own subfolder. The forwarding location for a new registered domain, 'example.com' will be the following:

/www/example.com

You may confirm the domain forwarding location by logging in to your Netfirms Control Panel and click on the Domains menu -> Domain manager. Click on the domain you are publishing to and you will see under the Home Directory tab your domain's forwarding location.

Putting it Together

To put the 3 parts together you would simply combine the values.

[ftp://][Host name][directory]

In our example above, our publishing address will be as follows:

ftp://netfirmsuser.netfirms.ca/www/example.ca
4. Click on the Publish button
5. You will be asked for the name and password. Please enter your FTP user name and password.
