How do I use Netfirms File Manager?

To use the Netfirms File Manager, please follow these steps:

A. UPLOADING/PUBLISHING:

1. Login to the Netfirms Member Control Panel
2. Click Hosting
3. Choose Files
4. Click File Manager

Uploading to the /www folder:
5. Click the www folder

IMPORTANT: If you have a registered domain on your account and it is being forwarded to your /www/yourdomain.com/ folder, then double-click on the yourdomain.com folder from inside www (where yourdomain is your registered domain name hosted at Netfirms).

6. Click the Upload icon

7. For each file you wish to upload, click Browse and locate the file from your local computer

NOTE: You can upload up to 10 files at a time

8. Click the Upload button to start uploading your file(s)

Uploading to the /cgi-bin folder (this is where you would place your .pl and .cgi scripts):
9. Click the Main button
10. Click the cgi-bin folder
11. Click the Upload icon

12. For each file you wish to upload to the /cgi-bin folder, click Browse and locate the file from your local computer

NOTE: You can upload up to 10 files at a time

B. CREATING A NEW FILE OR FOLDER
1. Click the Main icon

2. To create a new file in your www area, click www. To create a new file in your cgi-bin area, click the cgi-bin folder
3. From the File pull-down menu, click the down arrow

4. Enter the name of the new file. Please remember to include the proper extension for the file (eg. .htm or .html for web files, .cgi or .pl for CGI/Perl files, .php for PHP files, etc.)
5. Click the Create buttonC. DELETING A FILE OR FOLDER:
1. Click the Main icon

2. If the file or folder resides in the /www folder, click www. If the file or folder resides in the /cgi-bin folder, click cgi-bin

NOTE: To delete everything from your site, click the checkbox located to the left of the Name column.

3. Check off the file you wish to be deleted (a check box appears to the left of each filename)
4. Click the Delete button

D. EDITING A FILE:
1. Click the Main icon

2. If the file or folder resides in the /www folder, click www. If the file resides in the /cgi-bin folder, click cgi-bin
3. Check off the file or folder you wish to edit (a check box appears to the left of each filename)4. From the Actions column, click the Edit icon

5. Make your edits and then click the Save button. By clicking Save, your changes will be immediately saved directly to your site.

NOTE: To save the revisions under a different file name, replace the current file name with another file name in the text box.

6. (Optional) We recommend that the same changes to the same files located on your local computer are made so you have an updated local backup copy of your website.

E. EMAILING A FILE:
1. Click the Main icon

2. If the file resides in the /www folder, click www. If the file resides in the /cgi-bin folder, click cgi-bin
3. Check off the file you wish to be emailed (a check box appears to the left of each filename)
4. From the Actions column click the Email button

5. Enter the following values:

From:
*To:
Subject:

* is mandatory while the other fields (From, Subject) or optional

6. Click the Email button

F. MOVING A FILE OR FOLDER

1. Click the Main icon

2. If the file or folder you wish to move resides in the /www folder, click www. If the file or folder resides in the /cgi-bin folder, click cgi-bin
3. Check off the file or folder you wish to move (a check box appears to the left of each filename)
5. Click the Move icon

6. Find the folder you wish to move the file or folder to by clicking on the destination folder. To navigate outside the current directory structure, click the Up icon

7. Once you are located in the destination folder click the Move button:

G. CHANGING PERMISSIONS ON A FILE OR FOLDER

1. If the file or folder resides in the /www folder, click www. If the file or folder resides in the /cgi-bin folder, click cgi-bin
2. Check off the file or folder you wish to change permissions on (a check box appears to the left of each filename)
3. For the file or folder in question, click the permissions from the Perm's column


4. Adjust the permissions accordingly

To change a file or folder to 644, the settings would ressemble the following:
