I. To transfer your Domain Registrar to Netfirms, please review the following ICANN/CIRA guidelines first:
ICANN Domains (.com, .net, org)- At this time only .com, .net, .org, and .ca domains can be transfered to Netfirms registrar
- Registrar transfers for .com, .net, .org domains
require you to have the AUTHINFO code for the domain. This AUTHINFO code
is available from your current registrar. Please ensure that you have
this AUTHINFO code before initiating the registrar transfer to Netfirms
- Only
domains that are not on REGISTRAR-HOLD, REGISTRAR-LOCK, SUPSENDED,
SUPSD, or EXPIRED status may be transfered to Netfirms registrar
- Your administrative contact should point to your current e-mail address
- Your .com or .net or org domain was registered or transfered within the last 60 days (ICANN regulations prohibit transferring a domain name that has been
registered or previously transferred within the last 60 days.)
- Your .com or .net or .org domain must have been registered for at least 60 days
CIRA Domains (.ca)
- Your .ca domain must have been active (registered) for at least 30 days
- Your .ca domain must not be within 30 days of expiry
II. If you already own the Domain Name and would like to change the registrar to Netfirms, add the domain to your Netfirms hosting account first, by following these steps: - Login to the Netfirms Members Control Panel at https://controlpanel.netfirms.com
- Click Domains
- Click Add
- Under the section Add a domain name section, choose the DNS Transfer radio button option
- Enter the domain name you wish to transfer
- Click Search
III. Initiating the Registrar Transfer
.com, .net Domains To
initiate a registrar transfer for your .com or .net domain so tthat
Netfirms becomes the registrar, please follow these steps: - Login to the Netfirms Members Control Panel at https://controlpanel.netfirms.com
- Click Domains
- For the domain you wish to transfer to Netfirms Registrar, click Transfer and follow the onscreen prompts
An
email (Form of Authorization) will be sent to the Admin contact email
address for the domain being transfered. The FOA email will contain a
confirmation key which you will be required to enter via DNS Admin
section of the Netfirms Control Panel - Domains section. .ca Domains To initiate a registrar transfer for your.ca domain so that Netfirms becomes the registrar, please follow these steps: ***IMPORTANT:***
An email from CIRA (Canadian Internet Registration Authority for .ca
domains) will be sent to the Admin contact email address for the domain
being transfered. You are required to follow the CIRA instructions to
complete the registrar transfer of your domain. This will require you
to login to your CIRA profile for the domain to confirm the change
of registrar. If you do not have this CIRA profile login information
please contact your existing registrar and have them send this to you at the
administrative contact e-mail address on record for the domain. NOTE:
The Registrant must confirm the transfer request within 5 days from the
date of the FOA email being sent. Otherwise the transfer request will
automatically cancel. A successful registrar transfer usually completes within 5-7 days.
During the registrar transfer process you are not able to make changes to your domains
nameserver or WHOIS information.IV. (Optional) Once your domain has been added you may choose to change the Name Server information associated with your Domain Name.
To host with Netfirms, contact your domain registrar and ask them to change the name servers to: Primary Name Server: ns1.netfirms.com
Secondary Name Server: ns2.netfirms.com
Note: It typically takes 24-72 hours for domains to be transferred by your domain registrar. Please also refer to Updating Nameservers to point to Netfirms for specific instructions on how to update your nameservers through your domain registrar.
