How To Register a Domain Name Using Twitter

In order to make domain name registration even easier, we have launched the ability to use the popular social networking service Twitter to register domain names.

The process is quite simple. You send a Direct Message to Netfirms via Twitter asking us to register a domain name for you. If the domain name is available we will register it for you and automatically add it to your existing Netfirms Control Panel and bill to your current billing profile.

For the sake of this tutorial we've used the following acronyms and shortcuts to be replaced with your own info:

dm = Direct Message
domain.com = replace with the domain you wish to register

Set Up A Twitter Account

  1. Visit http://twitter.com and sign up for an account if you do not have one
  2. Choose your Twitter username and fill in the rest of the information.

Link Your Twitter Account With your Netfirms Account

  1. Visit https://controlpanel.netfirms.com and log in to your Netfirms Account
  2. On the right hand side is a box for you to fill in your Twitter login information. By doing so you will be giving Netfirms authorization to act on domain registration requests you place from your Twitter account. Once filled in you will get a confirmation message that you are now following Netfirms.
You'll be glad to know that this process for domain registration is secure.  We will only process domain registration requests if they have come from your pre-authorized Twitter account.

Set up your Billing Profile

  1. From inside your Netfirms Control Panel, navigate to your Billing Profile
  2. Ensure that you have an up-to-date credit card or Paypal profile set up as we will use this profile to register the domains for you
The above steps only need to be performed once per Twitter + Netfirms combo.

Now that you've set up your accounts to work with each other you can now send domain registration requests directly from Twitter to @netfirms and register domains.

How To Register A Domain Via Twitter

  1. Log in to your Twitter account (You can use any of the available Twitter apps)
  2. Send a dm to @netfirms with the following: reg mynewdomain.com
  3. Once received we will confirm by replying to you via dm at which point the domain will be added to your Netfirms Control Panel. The invoice is generated and emailed to you as normal and the domain is ready to be used.
