How do I specify which Domain Name is displayed in the address bar when using Domain Forwarding (Pointers)?

You can configure which domain name to display in the web broswer address bar after adding a new domain name to your account. This functionality is also called Domain Masking and is commonly used to host multiple websites within a single account.

  1. Create a directory in your webspace for each Domain Name
  2. Login to the Netfirms Members Control Panel at https://controlpanel.netfirms.com
  3. Click Domains
  4. Choose Domains
  5. For the domain you wish to configure, click the plus sign towards the left of the Domain Name
  6. In the Source tab, enter the Home Directory or the Forwarding URL

Home Directory
If you type in a relative path, the pointer domain in the browser will display the content for that location of your web directory. The domain you typed into the browser is the domain name visible in the browser address bar.

Example of a relative path (note the required trailing slash in the example below):

/myotherdomain.com/

For domain masking or cloaking options, click here.

Forwarding URL
If you type in an absolute path in the Forwarding URL box, the domain will redirect to that URL, and display that name in the browser address bar.

Example of an absolute path: http://www.anywebsiteyouwish.com

HINT: If you wish to point to a specific file, you must rename your file to index.htm, index.html, or index.php and place the file into a folder.

NOTE: When forwarding a folder, the folder name must not contain any illegal characters (eg. underscores are not permitted).
