How do I move all my services to Netfirms?
To transfer your hosting account from your existing Provider to Netfirms, we suggest the following steps: 1. Transfer your website content to Netfirms
(a)
Once you receive a Welcome Letter via email confirming the setup of
your account, upload your Web site files, to your new Netfirms account
by following the instructions detailed in the Welcome Letter (ftp to
your Netfirms subdomain account if you haven't transferred your domain
to us yet).
(b) Ensure that your home page/default document has the proper file name It
should be named index.htm and should be located in your
/www/yourdomain.com folder (where yourdomain.com is the name of your
domain's folder)
2. Test your website
Test
your website to make sure all your links work properly, and test all
your site functions to make sure everything works properly. Make any
necessary changes.
3. Set up your Email accounts with Netfirms
(a) Login to the Netfirms Control Panel at Netfirms Control Panel (b) Click E-mail (c) Set up your email accounts so that you will not lose any mail when you point your domain to your new account.
4. Contact your domain registrar to point your domain to Netfirms
When
you are satisfied with how you have set up your new site, contact your
domain name registrar to have them point your domain to the Netfirms
name servers:
ns1.netfirms.com ns2.netfirms.com
NOTE:
Most registrars have a Web interface that allows you to do this online.
Otherwise you can call their customer service or support department for
assistance.
Please refer to Updating Nameservers to point to Netfirms for specific instructions on how to update your nameservers through your domain registrar.
5. Final Step: Cancel your old hosting account
Usually
it takes 24-72 hours for your domain name changes to fully propagate.
Once your domain has fully propagated requests for your site should
take your visitors to your new site hosted by Netfirms. You may now
safely cancel your account with your previous hosting Provider.
