Getting Started with Dreamweaver

I. Create a Web Page in Dreamweaver
 
To create a page with Dreamweaver, follow these steps:
 
1. Open Dreamweaver
2.  Select File --> New.
 
3. Type in "This is a simple test"
 
4. From the menu bar, select File --> Save As
 
5. Name the html file. (If this file is to be your homepage, name it index.html)
 
 
II. Publish Your Web Page
 
1. From the menu bar of the new window, select Site --> Define Site.
 
 
2. Click Edit.
 
3. After the new window opens, click on the Web Server Info option on the left.
 
4. Enter the following settings:

Server Access: FTP
FTP Host: www.yourdomain.com.
Host directory: www
Username: Insert your member name as indicated in your Netfirms Welcome Letter here.
Password: Insert your password here.
 
5. Click OK
 
When you are finished entering these settings, click on the OK button, and you will be connected to your server. The Security Information box may open, if so, just click on continue, and your file will upload.
 
 
A new window appear similar to the following:.
 
 
6. Click the connect button. (Once connected, the button will change to disconnect because you are already connected).
 
7. The left side is your web account on Netfirms and the right hand side is your local machine. Select the files that you wish to transfer from the right side of the window and drag them to the left side. You can also use the Get and Put buttons.

Once you have completed the steps above, visit your new website by browsing to your domain name (eg.

http://www.yourdomain.com where yourdomain.com is your registered domain hosted by Netfirms). If you are using a netfirms subdomain, you may browse to your new website at http://membername.netfirms.com (where membername is the Netfirms member name assigned to your account as indicated in your Netfirms Welcome Letter).
